Built for the people building what comes next.
Archstone Legal is a new-generation Barbados law firm for clients building businesses, managing risk, resolving conflict, and making decisions that need clear legal judgment.
The Firm
Small enough to work inside the deal, not around it.
Archstone Legal is a Barbados-based firm built around commercial and civil litigation, corporate advisory, and governance work. The firm takes on matters where commercial judgment carries as much weight as legal analysis — for corporate entities, public sector institutions, entrepreneurs, and individuals.
The firm's size is deliberate. Staying small keeps it flexible enough to get involved in how a transaction or business is structured, not only how it is documented — and to stay engaged as that structure moves forward, rather than closing the file at signing.
Why "Archstone"
An archstone is the keystone that gives an arch its structural strength — the piece that transfers load and holds the form together. The name reflects how the firm approaches legal work: the load-bearing element in a client's affairs, not a service added after the structure is already under strain.

About
Direct accountability, whoever's on the file.
Archstone Legal is a Barbados-based practice founded on the view that clients are best served when the person giving the advice is the person accountable for it.
Kashka J. Mottley
Founding Partner
Founding Partner
Kashka J. Mottley is the founding partner of Archstone Legal. His practice spans civil and commercial litigation, corporate advisory, and governance work, acting for corporate entities, public sector institutions, and individual clients on matters ranging from contractual disputes to regulatory compliance and business structuring.
Alongside private practice, he has held board governance and company secretarial roles for statutory and industry bodies in Barbados, and has been involved in regulatory and policy engagement work within the local business community. This dual perspective — practising litigator and governance advisor — shapes how the firm approaches client matters: with attention to both the immediate legal issue and the institutional context around it.
"The firm exists to be the load-bearing element in a client's affairs — not a service called in after the structure is already under strain."
Archstone Legal is deliberately structured to remain small. It does not take on more matters than the team can handle personally and carefully.
How the Firm Operates
Operating principles.
Direct Involvement
The person who takes the call is the person who does the work.
Commercial Literacy
Advice is given with the underlying business or transaction in view — often extending into how it is structured, not only how it is documented.
Realistic Assessment
Clients are told where a matter stands, including where the position is weak.
Defined Scope
Engagement terms and fee basis are agreed before work begins, not after.

Focused practice across nine areas.

Approach
Working method.
For clients who want a direct answer and a defined process, not extended correspondence.
Legal advice is only useful if it is delivered in a form a client can act on — in plain terms, on a realistic timeline, and with the commercial context understood from the outset.
Archstone Legal does not treat legal work as a series of isolated documents. Every matter is considered in the context of the client's broader position — commercial, institutional, or personal — so that the advice given today does not create a problem next year. Where useful, that also means engaging with how a transaction or business is structured, not stopping at the document that records it — and staying involved as that structure develops, rather than closing the file at signing.
Process
Four stages, applied to every matter.
01
Initial Consultation
The matter is discussed directly with the person handling it. Objectives, urgency, and constraints are identified before any advice is given.
02
Engagement & Scope
Terms of engagement, fee basis, and an honest timeline are agreed in writing before work begins.
03
Advice & Execution
Drafting, negotiation, advocacy, or advisory work proceeds, kept aligned to the client's actual commercial or personal objective.
04
Ongoing Relationship
Many matters do not end at resolution. The firm remains available for follow-on questions, governance support, and periodic review.
Who We Work With
Clients across four broad categories.
Corporate & Commercial Clients
Businesses requiring ongoing advisory support, contract work, or governance and compliance guidance.
Entrepreneurs & Business Owners
Founders and owner-operators who need a legal advisor who understands commercial pressure, not just legal form.
Individuals
Clients requiring civil litigation support or personal legal advisory work, handled with the same rigour as commercial matters.
Regional & International Clients
Businesses and individuals outside Barbados who require Barbados-qualified legal support for local matters.
Working Style
What to expect once engaged.
Structural Involvement
Where useful, the firm helps think through how a transaction or business is put together — not only how it is documented — and stays engaged as that structure develops.
Direct Communication
Advice is communicated in plain terms, without unnecessary hedging or legalese for its own sake.
Fee Transparency
Fee basis is agreed at the outset — fixed, hourly, or matter-based — with no surprises mid-engagement.
Defined Responsiveness
Enquiries and client correspondence are reviewed and responded to within defined windows, not left unanswered.
Realistic Assessment
Clients are given an honest view of their position, including where a claim or matter is weaker than hoped.
